Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, is set to address the nation later today as part of the Government Accountability Series – a platform aimed at promoting transparency and public engagement.
Dr Boamah is expected to provide a detailed update on the country’s security landscape, including internal and external defence matters, as well as the performance of the Ministry of Defence over the first half of the year.
A major focus of his address will be the long-running conflict in Bawku in the Upper East Region. The Defence Minister is likely to outline current military operations and government-led interventions aimed at restoring peace in the area, which has seen sustained unrest in recent years.
The welfare of military personnel is also expected to feature prominently in the address. Issues such as promotions, troop deployments, and the overall readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces will be discussed.
The Government Accountability Series is a mid-year initiative that invites ministers to report on progress within their portfolios. It forms part of a broader effort by the administration to foster open governance and enhance communication between government officials and the public.
