The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has led a high-level government delegation to receive the mortal remains of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The remains were airlifted from the crash site to Kumasi aboard a Ghana Air Force aircraft and were formally received this evening at the Air Force Base. A solemn and dignified ceremony was held to mark the arrival, attended by senior military officers, members of the Air Force Command, and other state officials.
The fatal crash claimed the lives of several distinguished public servants, including:
• Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
• Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment
• Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
• Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
• Samuel Aboagye, former Member of Parliament
Also among the deceased were three members of the Ghana Air Force crew:
• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
• Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu
• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The presence of the Chief of Staff and the top military leadership underscores the gravity of the loss and the national significance of the lives cut short. The government is expected to announce funeral and burial arrangements in due course, in consultation with the families of the deceased.
This ceremony marks a somber chapter in the nation’s history, as Ghana mourns the loss of dedicated leaders and service personnel who died in the line of duty.
