Ashanti Regional Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of Kusasi Chief in Asawase

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the fatal shooting of a Kusasi Chief at Asawase F-Line in Kumasi on the evening of Monday, July 22.

According to an official police statement, initial investigations suggest that the victim, a middle-aged man believed to be a traditional leader, was gunned down by two unidentified assailants. The attackers, who were reportedly riding separate motorbikes, approached the victim at close range and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The victim was first transported to the Manhyia District Hospital for emergency treatment and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been transferred to the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.

In the aftermath of the incident, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, and the Regional Crime Officer, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, led a team of officers to the scene to gather evidence and assess the situation.

During the inspection, officers recovered two spent shells suspected to have been discharged from an AK-47 assault rifle.

Police have condemned the incident as a “heinous crime” and assured the public that all resources are being mobilized to apprehend those responsible.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and assist the Police by sharing any information that could aid in the investigation,” the statement read.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or reach out via the emergency lines: 191, 18555, or 112.
