Ashanti Region: Police Arrest Four Armed Robbers, Fatally Shoot One in Separate Operations

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and the fatal shooting of another in two separate operations carried out in the region.

The first incident occurred on July 9 along the Ankaako–Asuoso–Fenase road in the Amansie South District, where four armed men had reportedly mounted an illegal roadblock and were robbing commuters.

Responding swiftly to a distress call, a police patrol team intercepted the suspects as they attempted to flee the scene on motorbikes. All four were apprehended and identified as Rahman Alhassan, 27; Nurudeen Fatawu, 25; Naafewu Masahudu, 22; and Yaw Saaka, 42.

A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of a pump-action shotgun, 20 rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and several talismans believed to be used for spiritual protection.

In a separate operation at Abedwum in the Obuasi Municipality, a police intelligence-led raid targeting a suspected armed robbery gang resulted in the death of one suspect following a shootout.

According to the police, the suspects opened fire and fled into a nearby bush upon sighting the approaching officers. During the ensuing exchange, one of the suspects was fatally shot.

A search of the deceased's backpack uncovered 14 rounds of ammunition along with other undisclosed items. Police believe the remaining suspects, who managed to escape, may have sustained gunshot wounds and are currently being pursued.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to fighting violent crime and maintaining law and order in the region. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity and assist law enforcement with any information that may lead to further arrests.
