Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has formally endorsed the 2025 edition of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s annual Rapperholic concert, which will be held in Kumasi for the second time since its inception.
The endorsement came during a courtesy visit by Sarkodie — born Michael Owusu Addo — and his management team to the Manhyia Palace on Friday, July 18. The rapper briefed the King on plans for this year’s concert, scheduled for September 27 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Now in its twelfth year, Rapperholic has become a fixture on Ghana’s entertainment calendar. Originally launched in Accra following the release of Sarkodie’s album of the same name, the event is being staged in Kumasi as part of a broader effort to decentralize major cultural showcases.
“This is the second time we are hosting the concert in Kumasi, and we came to seek His Majesty’s blessings before the official announcement,” Sarkodie said during the visit.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in attending. He offered personal guidance to the artist, urging him to maintain humility and avoid the trappings of rivalry within the competitive music landscape.
“He must avoid all unhealthy competitions,” the Asantehene said. “He is already gifted. He must remain focused on his actions.”
The King also addressed Sarkodie’s team, encouraging them to uphold strong values and prioritize unity and professionalism.
“Don’t involve yourselves in anything that will create problems for the artiste,” Otumfuo advised. “When honour comes, you will have your share.”
Sarkodie’s decision to bring the high-profile concert to Kumasi is expected to boost local tourism and entertainment, drawing thousands of fans and generating significant commercial interest in the Ashanti regional capital.
