Asantehemaa’s Reign Embodied Dignity, Humility and Service – Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has paid glowing tribute to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, describing her reign as one distinguished by dignity, humility, and selfless service to Asanteman.

Delivering his eulogy through Ghanaian business magnate Sir Sam Jonah, the Asantehene said the late Queen Mother exemplified true leadership, striking a rare balance between majesty and compassion.

“She sat in majesty, yet never placed herself above her people. She was the voice of the woman in the market, the comfort of widows, the guardian of orphans, and the reconciler of families in dispute,” he said.

According to him, her court was a sanctuary of patience, wisdom, and care, while her private life reflected the tenderness of motherhood. “She reminded us that leadership is not about command, but about care; not about domination, but about compassion,” he added.

Otumfuo further reflected on their personal bond, describing the late Queen Mother as more than a monarch — she was his elder sister and confidante. He highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural significance of the Asantehemaa–Asantehene relationship, calling it a cornerstone of Ashanti governance.

“That bond was even more profound during my reign, for the Queen Mother was also my senior sister. Together, we carried the weight of Asanteman — two shoes, two rows, yet one heart for our people,” the Asantehene declared.
