The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has launched efforts to compile a verified list of affected farmers, after residents raised concerns that ongoing access bans could lead to significant disruptions in food production and economic hardship.
Officials say that although an initial list submitted by local coordinators identified 219 potentially affected farmers, only a fraction of that number may have legitimate claims. “The list the director brought to me was too packed,” said Gariba Mohammed Mustapha, District Chief Executive for Adansi Akrofuom, in an interview Monday. “We are currently verifying the names. We estimate about 20 farmers may actually require regular passage through the restricted area.”
The restrictions follow the August 6 crash of a military helicopter in a forested section of the district, which killed all eight passengers and crew.
