Appiah-Kubi Urges Dialogue Over Suspension of Wontumi Multimedia Stations

Lawyer for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has called for dialogue following the suspension of three radio stations under the Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited.

The National Communications Authority (NCA) halted operations of 95.9 FM in Accra, 101.3 FM in Kumasi, and 101.3 FM in Takoradi over breaches of broadcasting regulations. The violations included the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.

The suspensions came after the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to rectify such infractions.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on August 12 with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Mr. Appiah-Kubi stressed the need for constructive engagement between the NCA and Wontumi Multimedia.

“I think there’s a need for us to comply with the directive. We have to meet the requirements under the law that’s what the regulator expects,” he said. “Granted that the expectations were not met, I believe we should engage, identify the shortfalls, and work towards meeting the requirements so we can return to normal operations.”
