A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region
The aircraft a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW was flying from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by severe weather conditions in the area. Sources confirmed that both the pilot and crew members are safe.
This incident comes just days after another helicopter, with registration number 9G-ADW, made a precautionary landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, also due to adverse weather. That aircraft, carrying four passengers, encountered turbulent winds and worsening visibility mid-flight. The pilot diverted to an open field within the school compound, drawing large crowds from the local community. The helicopter remained grounded for about an hour before resuming its journey once conditions improved.
These occurrences follow the August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofoum, Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Murtala Mohammed, three government officials, and three crew members.
