Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has formally appealed to the family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known by his stage name Daddy Lumba, to include him in the musician’s funeral arrangements, citing a deep personal and political debt.
Akufo-Addo, who led Ghana from 2017 to 2025, made the request during a condolence visit to the Fosu family on Friday, August 1. He credited the singer’s influence and support with playing a significant role in his political rise.
“My name is known throughout Ghana because of him and the work he did,” the former president said. “I would be greatly pained if I were excluded from the funeral. I want the opportunity to show my gratitude.”
Daddy Lumba, who passed away recently, was considered a transformative figure in Ghana’s music industry, with a decades-long career marked by commercial success and political influence. His affiliation with Akufo-Addo during key electoral campaigns made him a notable cultural ally of the New Patriotic Party.
The timing and scale of the funeral have yet to be publicly announced.
