The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has issued a three-day ultimatum to foreign nationals engaged in retail trade within the enclave, demanding that they shut down their shops or face enforcement action.
According to the Association, the operations of these foreign traders breach Ghana’s investment laws, distort fair competition, and endanger the survival of local businesses.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, the Association’s General Secretary, Gifty Lovelock Naana Fianu, cautioned that the group will not hesitate to invoke Section 27(1) of the GIPC Act, 2013 (Act 865) through citizens’ arrest if authorities fail to act.
“We are giving them three days to comply. Today, we will move around and engage them respectfully so they understand our position. On Wednesday, we will meet with their leaders. If they refuse to heed our call, we will involve the authorities. We will send letters to the police, give them five days, notify all relevant institutions, and then proceed with our next steps,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ghanaclassifies News can confirm that some affected foreign traders have already closed their outlets, while a public address vehicle continues to patrol the hub, issuing warnings.
