About 50 Nigerian nationals have been apprehended by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) during a dawn operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The operation followed intelligence reports linking the individuals to suspected human trafficking and cybercrime activities.
A statement released on Thursday, July 24, 2025, and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs, confirmed the arrests and detailed the purpose of the raid.
According to the GIS, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence about the illegal presence of some foreign nationals in the area. Authorities further revealed disturbing reports indicating that many of those arrested may have been trafficked into the country and coerced into engaging in cyber fraud by their handlers.
“The Ghana Immigration Service, in the early hours of July 24, 2025, conducted a special operation at McCarthy Hills, Ga South Municipality. Intelligence indicated the illegal stay of some foreign nationals, several of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud activities,” the statement read.
Among those arrested was the landlord of the residence suspected to be the hub of the alleged illegal operations. Officials believe the property served as the main base for the activities in question.
The GIS emphasized that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation and to identify all individuals involved in the suspected human trafficking and cybercrime network.
The Service assured the public that updates will be shared as new information emerges.
