15 Feared Dead in Crash on Kumasi–Accra Highway

A head-on collision on the Kumasi–Accra highway Monday afternoon claimed the lives of at least 15 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana, according to preliminary local reports.

The fatal crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. near the town of Atwedie, when a passenger vehicle carrying churchgoers collided with an oncoming fuel tanker. Authorities said the victims were en route to Obogu, a town in the Asante Akyem South Municipality, after attending an annual church gathering in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

Details surrounding the incident remain fluid, but initial accounts indicate that the force of the collision caused multiple fatalities at the scene. Emergency personnel, including police and fire officers, responded swiftly to manage the aftermath and facilitate the transport of victims to a local morgue.

Officials have yet to release the identities of the deceased, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
